2023 Embroidery Trends

We start a new year full of illusion, hope and gratitude. We’re so grateful that you are reading this while celebrating the holidays and sharing in our good cheer! May our hopeful wishes follow you and yours home and warm you through the new year. In this blog post we bring new embroidery inspiration that you can take as a reference for this 2023.

 Cross-stitch

It is typically done on an Aida or Evenweave/linen fabric (although they are different materials, Evenweave is cotton and can be on linen as well) as they are weaved evenly. This technique tries to recreate pixel art by the square finish of each stitch, since cross-shaped stitches are created that form the design you want to make.

 3D embroidery

3D embroidery generally consists of embroidering on a textile garment by superimposing a flexible and spongy sheet of polypropylene between the fabric and the machinery. During the process of this embroidery technique, the needle goes through the sheet while the stitches cover it. The design is raised, completely hiding the sheet and simulating a 3D effect. It is important to note that 3D embroidery requires a special type of needle. The most convenient thing will be to use SES type needles, since these will cut the sheet more easily and effectively when embroidering on it. Also try to avoid using sharp point needles as you will need more stitches to cut through the entire sheet.

 Needle painting

Needle painting embroidery goes by several other names, including long and short stitch shading, thread painting and silk shading. This technique is used for filling areas realistically and for “painting” images with needle and thread, imitating real images.

 Embroidery tinting

If you want to take your embroidery to the next level, you can mix textile paint with materials such as watercolor or acrylic, to give your creations a different touch. There are many types of paints and plenty to choose from when tinting your embroidery. The watercolor painting besides being artistic is soft and beautiful. Colors generally tend to fade, so if you want a sharper color, use a stencil with freezer paper. Also keep in mind that you have to work fast when you start painting as these types of paints dry quite quickly, so try to spread the color and mix it as quickly as possible. We also recommend you use small brushes to paint the border lines where the embroidery will go.

 Miniature embroidery

This is a trend in which pieces of even millimeters are created. Besides being incredibly cute, miniature embroideries mean a lot as a gift. You can create from earrings, keychains, pins, among many other things!
